Religious Appreciation & Pilgrimages
John Meyers, Chairman
Our Order is rooted in Christ’s call to charity: “Whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.” Through clergy appreciation programs, councils, assemblies, and auxiliaries have many opportunities throughout the year to honor priests and religious for their faithful service to the Church.
A parish recognition, shared meal, or other thoughtful gesture can be a meaningful way to express gratitude for their sacrifices and dedication while embracing the state theme: “Your Grace is Sufficient for Me.”
Catholics have made pilgrimages for centuries as journeys of devotion. In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI said, “To go on pilgrimage really means to step out of ourselves in order to encounter God.” In that spirit, the State Council will continue offering pilgrimages to help councils, assemblies, and auxiliaries deepen their faith and strengthen their relationship with God.
Councils may also participate in retreats and days of reflection organized by other groups. If a council attends an event, it did not organize, participation should still be significant—at least 10 percent of the council or a minimum of 10 members. The State Council again plans to host a pilgrimage in each diocese during this fraternal year, with more information to be announced as plans are finalized.
Faith Enrichment
As Knights and their families, we are called to serve God, the Church, and our parish communities. In cooperation with pastors, councils can strengthen faith formation in practical ways such as:
-
Meeting with the pastor to align the council’s plans with parish needs.Discussing annual goals and activities that support parish life.
-
Seeking pastoral guidance to keep the council spiritually grounded.
-
Asking how the council can support the pastor’s ministry—and listening carefully.
-
Promoting programs that deepen understanding of the sacraments.
-
Encouraging appreciation for the common priesthood and for priests in the parish, home, and community.
