Exemplifications of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity

Inspiring Faith Through Our Ceremonials

Degree ceremonies are the sacred gateway to our Order. They impart profound spiritual lessons that inspire men to action while introducing them to the heart of our brotherhood. Through the Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity—our Unified Degree—new members instantly learn the foundational pillars of the Knights of Columbus. Furthermore, because this modern ceremony is open to family, friends, and parishioners, it strips away old mysteries and serves as a powerful tool to showcase the beauty of our Order to the entire parish community.

Bringing men into the Order through this ceremony is a holy calling. As we look to expand our ranks under our state theme, "Your Grace is Sufficient for me," we remember that God provides everything necessary to touch men's hearts. Bringing this ceremony directly into the sacred space of the church allows candidates and their families to experience Christ's grace firsthand.

Action Steps for Your Council:

  • Seek Pastoral Permission: Councils are strongly encouraged to ask their pastor for permission to hold the Unified Degree right inside the church building, elevating the dignity of the event.
  • Build Community: Follow the ceremony with a social get-together, reception, or dinner. This creates an immediate sense of fraternity for the new Knight and his family.

Forming a Degree Team

Each council should have its own degree team. While the parts no longer must be memorized, presenting the Exemplification to your new council members gives you the opportunity to welcome them into the Order. It is something that they will appreciate. Please contact the Ceremonials Chairman if you have questions or need help forming a degree team.

Monthly Degrees/State Calendar

Streamlining Our Growth: Monthly Degrees & The State Calendar

Bringing new men into the Order should be a continuous, seamless process. To ensure that every council has immediate access to a ceremony, Missouri is implementing a structured, regional degree schedule this fraternal year.

Meeting these monthly goals is entirely achievable when we trust in the Lord's promise: "Your Grace is Sufficient for me." Through His grace, our district teams are fully equipped to maintain a vibrant calendar of exemplifications.

Your Degree Ceremony Roadmap:

  • District Requirement: Every district must conduct a minimum of one degree ceremony per month.
  • Council Flexibility: Individual councils are encouraged to hold extra ceremonies to accommodate local parish schedules.
  • Supreme’s Virtual Backup: If a live team is unavailable, use Supreme's virtual degrees immediately. There is absolutely no reason to make a new recruit wait to join the brotherhood.

Post and Track: All degrees must be logged on the state calendar at the bottom of the state homepage. This allows neighboring councils to bring their candidates to your event.

Check the upcoming schedule or submit your council's next degree date directly online at mokofc.org. For direct support with scheduling or regional tracking, contact:

Unified Degree Ceremony for Members

Be sure that all members who did not complete the Third Degree under the prior system are invited to complete a Unified Degree ceremony. After the conclusion, they will become Third Degree members.

Online Members

It is critical that you reach out to online members in your area and ask them to join your council. The online membership chairman will help coordinate online members in your area. Of course, respect the wishes of an online member if they do not wish to join your council.
