The Mariner
Ken Wehmeyer, Editor in Chief
Overview
The Mariner is the Missouri Knights of Columbus quarterly state newspaper, delivered to every Knights family by mail and to Knights widows upon request. It features news about Knights families, Councils, Assemblies, Auxiliaries, Agencies, Districts, Chapters, and the State Council from across Missouri.
Publication deadlines: September 5, November 5, March 5, and May 5.
The Mariner is Going Digital!
Beginning in early 2025, The Mariner will transition to an electronic format, saving the State Council over $40,000 annually in postage costs. More details will be shared soon, but Councils are still encouraged to submit articles and photos for publication.
Submitting Content
Articles
Material should be submitted to the Editor, Ken Wehmeyer, via email at wehprint@sbcglobal.net, on or before the deadline date. For postal mail submissions, email Ken to request his mailing address well in advance of the deadline. Allow two to three days for articles or photos to arrive if sending via USPS.
Submissions by regular mail should be typewritten if possible and in sentence case to minimize errors in proper names. If handwriting is necessary, please ensure the text is legible. For email submissions:
- Submit articles in Microsoft Word format (.doc, .docx) or type them directly in the body of the email.
- Confirmation of receipt will be provided upon request.
Photos
Photos submitted by mail should be in positive form (e.g., colored prints, Polaroid, or instamatic). Please ensure the quality is sufficient for publication—"what you see is what you get." Camera phone and digital camera photos should be taken as close to the subject as possible to ensure clarity when enlarged.
Do not send photos via fax or as photocopies. Photos submitted via email should follow these guidelines:
- Save in JPEG format.
- Limit size to no larger than 8”×10” or 1536×1024 pixels.
- Include proper identification and answer the 5 “W” questions: WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, and WHY.
Avoid using photos cut from local newspapers as they are often too low in quality for publication.
Submission Process
Articles or photos should be submitted through a District Deputy, State Council officer, director, or chairman. Councils whose submissions are not published in the next issue may contact the Editor for clarification.
