The Strong and Faithful Survive

     My theme for Family Activities this year is “The Strong and Faithful Survive”.  I chose this theme because I whole heartedly believe in exactly what it says.  I do not believe that you can have one without the other.  I feel a strong family is a faithful family, and a faithful family is a strong family.  It makes me think of my family and how blessed I am to have the family that I do.

     I do agree with my predecessor that the families of this day and age are crumbling apart, due to the lack of faith and commitment. That is why I will strive to create and host programs that will strengthen the family as a whole.  Some of the programs are as follows:

     State Family of the Month – The purpose of the Family of the Month program is to recognize the outstanding families of your Council who are active in the Church, Community and Council.  The family (Knight, wife and children; however if there are no children, Knight and wife are still eligible) should exemplify an involved, active and faith based Catholic family.

     Family Baseball Outing – Family Day at the ballpark will be held at Busch Stadium on September 9, 2012 when the Cardinals take on the Milwaukee Brewers. Tickets are $22.00.  Should be a great day at the ballpark, and remember that $5.00 from each ticket will be returned to our wing at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.  Contact Chairman Bill Schulte or Jim Cooper for more info and tickets.  A flyer and order form is listed in this Directory.

     Family Day at the ‘ZOU – Mizzou football is hosting Arizona State on Saturday, September 15, 2012.  Price for a ticket is $40.00.  One lucky ticket holder will win an autographed football signed by the Head Coach of Mizzou.  Keep your ears open on the tail gate party, as we are still working on it.  Please note, the time of the game is not released until sometime in August.

STATE FAMILY OF THE MONTH PROGRAM -

The purpose ofthe Family of the Month program is to recognize the outstanding families of your Council who are active in the Church, Community and Council. The family (Knight, wife and children; however if there are no children, Knight and wife are still eligible) should exemplify an involved, active and faith based Catholic family.

Councils have expressed concern about singling out a specific family for the award. While each council may have numerous outstanding families, there is plenty of opportunities to recognize each ofthem. More than one application can be submitted each time and there are six opportunities for submission per year.

Each Council should honor the selected Families of the Month at a Council event. Present the Family with a Family ofthe Month certificate (Form #1843) or some other form of recognition. At the end of the year each Council should select a Family of the Year from the monthly Families of the Month.

SUPREME FAMILY OF THE MONTH PROGRAM -

Each month during the Fraternal Year a family's name may be submitted to the Supreme Council on the  form provided in the Supreme "Family of the Month" program booklet provided to each Grand Knight and Family Director. At the Supreme office each month they will draw 100 names from those submitted by the Councils. Those families drawn will receive a beautiful Holy Family statue along with a letter of congratulations from Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson.

FAMILIES AND BASEBALL - AN AMERICAN TRADITION!!

That old advertising campaign spoke of “Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie, and Chevrolet”. We can’t help much with the apple pie and Chevrolet, but the Baseball is well covered! (And I’m sure a Hot Dog can be found somewhere that day.)

September 8th, 2013 will be the Family Day at the Ball Park at Busch Stadium with the St. Louis Cardinals taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates. FAMILIES AND FOOTBALL - A NEW AMERICAN TRADITION!!
New last year, the Family Day at the ‘ZOU!” tradition was begun.  Nope, not a misspelled word!  For this year, we have a block of tickets for a Mizzou game on September 15th, 2013. Mizzou will be playing Arizona State that day. Never been to a college game? Now is your chance, and right in the center of the state to be convenient to all! We have hints that one lucky person that day might even receive a football autographed by the Head Coach. A tail gate party? Well, we are still working on that, and we will keep you advised. Everybody loves soccer!  New this year - the KC SPORTING team VS COLUMBUS CREW, JUNE 29, 2013 AT 7:30 PM.

Tickets are $30 with proceeds going to Special Olympics.
